  • Useless Consultants

Nothing is more frustrating than having to watch obscenely paid consultants talk absolute bullshit, watch the ignorant groupies gather around them trying to figure out the problem that was just created by said consultants in their efforts to articulate a solution, and then having to step in to restore sanity to the context of the discussion and to salvage what little value remains in the workshop while being paid a market related salary for a job description that is only a tenth of your scope of accountability.

But, as is clearly evident on Tumblr and in real life, the laziness of those with authority and cheque books will always result in titles being respected, if not revered, more than real world wisdom because appreciating real world wisdom requires the establishment of an informed opinion on a subject. And then to add insult to injury, having to sit quietly trying to justify why logic is logical, and having to over exert yourself to get the illogical to be convinced that 1+1=2 not just because you say so, but simply because it does.

The demise of this world will result from the intellectual laziness that is excessively camouflaged by the brain numbing acquisition of useless information through academic pursuits disguised as models against which free thinkers are supposedly developed.

  • Question – To Blog or Reblog?

Well I follow some prose blogs,I haven’t found any blog which doesn’t include reblogs yet but I’ll look through my dash and let you know 🙂 Also I have been meaning to ask do you have a degree in language? Your writing is so eloquent and refined.

I really don’t mind the reblogs. It’s the chronic reblogger that tends to annoy me because that clutters up my dash to a point where I sometimes had to literally go through about 5 or 6 pages just to get to the content of the other blogs that I follow.

Thanks for the compliment, but to answer your question, I actually haven’t even finished high school, let alone completed any tertiary studies. So everything I know is largely based on life/work experience, and hardly anything through formal study. Hence my aversion to academics. 🙂

  • Question – To Blog or Reblog?

Maybe some of us don’t write because they can’t.

    :p

    Look who’s talking!

It’s not the writing style only that appeals to me. And I definitely don’t consider myself a writer. It’s just the insight that is offered into how someone may view the world so that I have an opportunity to either relate, or to obtain a fresh perspective. In a strange way, it affords me a connection with others that has been rare in my real life. So I guess it’s a selfish indulgence. Me wanting to connect with others in a way that isn’t normally possible given the social prejudices and constraints that prevent it otherwise.

  • Question – To Blog or Reblog?

runesofthedead answered your question: I think I’ve figured it out. The reason why so…

Oh wow, same here, of course I could never express it like you.Perhaps you could try branching out by interacting w/bloggers such as yourself

You know of others that are cynical and jaded like me? 🙂 Seriously though, in the time I’ve been on Tumblr, I haven’t really come across many bloggers that seem to share a similar interest to my own in personal expression. Most are pretty focused on specific fields of interest, but hardly anyone just writes about their life. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places, but the few that I have come across that share some similarities I already follow.

I guess my rant was about some people that I have unfollowed over recent months because they used to flood my dashboard with reblogs to the point that it made it difficult for me to catch up with the real and original content that I enjoy. I don’t mind reblogs from time to time, or even a daily dose of reblogs, but within reason. When it goes beyond 20 or 30 or more for a single blogger, then I tune out! 🙂

  • To Blog or Reblog?

I think I’ve figured it out. The reason why so many people are rebloggers more than they are bloggers. They lack inspiration, the same way I do this morning. Hence my inclination to reblog so many things, although my restraint has been keeping me in check. So, like the rebloggers, I’m tempted to borrow inspiration as if I’m licensed to be a curator of what may inspire others, all the while parading my reblogs as my inspiration to share with the world.

I’m feeling somewhat deflated, I found myself trawling some of the tags that I follow in the hope of finding something that may be worth sharing. It was partly due to a need to want to share something meaningful, as well as wanting to fill that gaping void on my dashboard that taunts me if I don’t bleed out some thoughts at least once every other day.

But I’m tired. Too tired to note all the beauty in the insanity around me, apart from the way the sun shone through the leafless tree this morning while the clouds literally raced across a crystal clear blue sky. The icy winds drove me to retract into a self-embrace trying to fight off the cold, while sitting at the entrance to the smoker’s balcony at work provides me with regular gusts of ice cold misery each time some nihilist steps out to rape a cigarette.

I feel obligated to write out these rambling posts while I rarely read. That feels somewhat hypocritical. I have barely enough attention span to read through the dosage directions of aspirin these days.

Nothing like the sound of a massive diesel generator grunting in the background to support my efforts to procrastinate on Tumblr during yet another unplanned power outage in this miserably cold part of Johannesburg today. This is the kind of post that gets deleted the morning after the night before. I keep wondering when is someone going to notice that the venom that I spit in my posts is actually a reflection of my own self-image?

  • A rant…

And so it happened…again. My naivety led me down the garden path thinking that at some point principles and integrity will shed a glimmer of hope that not all corporates operate on the same basis. But like I said, my naivety once again got the better of me.

At moments like this I’m reminded of that proverb that says that there is no limit to what a man can do if he doesn’t care who gets the credit for it. I generally don’t care about the credit, but I do care about the paycheck, because a pat on the back or a flowery compliment doesn’t pay the bills.

I’ve been on both sides of this fence, and neither side has greener grass. Both sides have an equal amount of manure, and both sides have underhanded swines that will rather play political games to protect their fragile egos and to cloak their incompetence before they’ll do the right thing for the right reasons.

Being sincere and having integrity requires conviction. Look around you, whether in the corporate setting, or in a non-profit organisation, the ethical void is disgustingly obvious. Conviction only exists in self-preservation. Everything else takes a back seat for the 99% that are prone to declare themselves victims of someone else playing their marked card before they got a chance to play theirs first.

The human race disgusts me. That guy from Matrix got it right. We’re a virus. A disgusting virus that respects nothing but greed and self-indulgence, even in our arrogant piety we’re competing to prove that we’re more pious and more sincere than others, woefully inadequate in sincerity, and forever professing humility out of arrogance.

This rant was triggered by yet another blow to my rib cage that knocked the wind out of me. A blow that came from behind even though I knew it was coming for a long time now. But I’m a naive fool, that’s why I give the benefit of the doubt to others even if they bear all the hallmarks of the putrid souls I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with before. If I judge them prematurely, I’ll step firmly on that slippery slope that will lead me to the place of putrefaction that most of them dwell in. So for now, I’ll continue to allow others to screw me over before I take any action to protect myself or my interests. My idealism will be the end of me.

  • Another Vicious Cycle

Man is incapable of perfection, yet I expect it of others, and demand it of myself. Even in the latitude that I allow myself and others around me, I expect perfection in their compliance with such boundaries all the while fooling myself that my flexibility flies in the face of my perfectionist tendencies. Nonetheless, I strive for perfection in pursuit of efficiency because any inefficiency irks me with the realisation that energy is being consumed on something that could be avoided. I’m lazy like that.

The circular debate that rages in my head leaves me exhausted enough not to be able to fulfil my expectations of myself. It’s a tedious cycle. Feeling too tired to do what I know needs to be done, then feeling disgruntled by the fact that I’m not making the progress I’d hoped for, followed by the disillusionment at the realisation that I’m too tired to maintain the presence of mind required to complete the tasks at hand.

Feels like a dog chasing its tail, or the donkey in hot pursuit of the dangling carrot. I pray I’m not the only one with this affliction, because there is much comfort that can be gained by witnessing our shortcomings in others. It suddenly makes us feel human and less than incompetent.

  • A Run-On Rant

I have this intense urge to want to write something meaningful but I’m completely distracted by the saddening news that the people around me don’t know what I do for a living no matter how many times and how many ways I’ve tried my level best to explain in as simple terms as possible what it is that I do and after being accused yet again of using flowery language at the office by idiots that are supposed to have received a superior education compared to my own I find it impossible to maintain my composure knowing that my efforts to be understood or known have thus far been an utter failure of epic proportions leaving me feeling like a deflated drama king anxiously scanning his surroundings for affirmation that all is not lost, yet.
