  • Those Invertebrates Again

The disjointed thought patterns are back. Just as I was starting to revel in the experience of being able to think in whole sentences again, it all came to an ungraceful stop today. No. It did not come to a stop, I stopped it. I stopped it because I was tired of the same routine, the same cycle, the same deja moo. You know, those moments when you feel like you’ve heard this bullshit before? That was me today, and yesterday. Oh, hold on, it was last week as well, but I wasn’t paying too much attention back then because my natural defences kicked in and I shut out the noise, like  most people do these days.

The only words that teeter on the tip of my lips right now, threatening to escape through my fingers, are expletives. Joyous, wonderful, and indulgent vulgarities, because that is all that I can muster to describe the contempt with which I view many people right now. A herd of perfectly postured invertebrates pretending to be sincere while desperately creating smokescreens to hide their pathetic incompetence and unethical behaviour. I need to scream a primal scream that causes a mountain to crumble to ashes so that I can finally let go of the frustration that mounts within me while I wait for people to be true to their stated convictions. I fittingly and deliberately plagiarised that imagery from one such invertebrate I had the misfortune of believing in. But that’s a whinge for another lifetime.

There has to be a point to this post other than just a rant. If I don’t make a meaningful point, it will reduce my self-esteem to nothingness at the realisation that I just succumbed to the same pathetic pointless existence as most of them. Yes, them. Those oxygen thieves that stop at nothing to secure their selfish needs without any consideration for the sequence of events that they set in motion. A sequence of events that always tramples on the disenfranchised (I can’t believe I just used that liberal bullshit term) while pompously patting themselves on their blubbery backs.

I despise the world tonight. No, I despise the psychopaths that wear masks pretending to be human when in fact they’re simply parasites in expensive suits worn as a superficial skin that presents a notion of dignity, without conscience.

This is a haphazard rant. I haven’t been this self-indulgent in a long time. I hate that I work with people that make such indulgence necessary to begin with. But my saving grace is the fact that having a need to vent confirms that I have yet to give up my passion for what I believe in and hold dear. So to hell with the spineless swines. I will not become complacent to be party to their despicable agendas. I really sound like an idealistic teenager sometimes. Damn!

  • In Need of a Label

Sometimes I feel inclined to succumb to the labelling that makes others feel more comfortable to be with me or around me. Perhaps I should be the stereotype that is expected of me, and assume the position of vulnerability and neediness that would make others feel more significant around me. Labels, stigmas, stereotypes and the like repulse me. It forces me into a pigeon hole and makes me feel smothered and claustrophobic.

It’s seemingly easier for me to deal with others that don’t fit the mould than it is for others to deal with me. I don’t tow the line when I’m expected to, and I don’t reserve opinion when it would be proper or polite. Instead, at this ripe old age, I still fail to realise that sincerity is not what is being sought, but rather affirmation. Saying the right thing at the wrong time has probably gotten more people in trouble than anything else.

Such is the double standards of being human. We choose to see others through our insecurities and then lash out when they respond in a way that exposes it. I’m probably a prick of a human being because I don’t see fit to play along out of obligation when needed to do so. I assume that others are as passionate about the truth, sincerity and transparency as I am, and I’ll repeat that as many times as is needed despite knowing how arrogant it must sound.

Proclaiming not to be arrogant isn’t the same as professing to be humble, which as they say is arrogance in itself. The absence of arrogance is not necessarily humility, nor is the absence of humility arrogance. Both are in fact perspectives that others hold of us which most often would not be true because it’s easier for me to dismiss someone else as being arrogant instead of accepting that I may have failed to engage meaningfully or explained myself sufficiently. This doesn’t excuse the behaviour of those that are inconsiderate morons who assume that the world revolves around them, although having said that, I get the nagging feeling that I just contradicted myself.

    This is a pointless ramble.

  • Farewell

    cynicallyjaded:

After much thought and restlessness, I’ve decided to stop actively maintaining my Tumblr blog. I’ve imported all my posts to my WordPress blog, and for now, I intend to bleed on that site instead. I suspect that my Tumblr blog will evolve into being a place for me to reblog things that I like, but I doubt I’ll return to share my thoughts/views/rants on here in future.

If you’d like to keep in touch, I’ll continue to respond to Tumblr asks, but I’d prefer if we maintained contact via my WordPress blog or email instead.

You can find me at http://cynicaljaded.wordpress.com

And my email address is cynicallyjaded@hotmail.com

  • Unfollow if you wish

As expected, after those last few posts in response to questions I received, the followers have started trickling away. Good riddance if you’re that fickle. Fortunately I wasn’t whoring for your attention, otherwise I would be devastated right now.

Frustration and a desperate need to be understood is what influences the tone and focus of what I write. But each time I think I’m one step closer to that goal, something happens that convinces me yet again that being understood is most likely a foolish endeavour in this lifetime.

It’s easier to make assumptions than to engage meaningfully. Engaging meaningfully requires effort and sincerity, and it often acquires a sense of responsibility that is too taxing for most.

  • Uninspired

The ‘inspiration’ tag on Tumblr is really un-inspirational. I guess that’s a sure sign that I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for something that will flirt with my imagination this evening. Work is becoming tedious, not because there isn’t enough to challenge me creatively, but because I work with people that fail to see potential, and only see solutions being possible from external consultants.

It’s the same old thing about life, isn’t it? We can hear the same advice from a million people, but until we hear it from someone we’re willing to listen to, it will never hit home. That’s the frustration of what I do. The industry insists on following frameworks and methodologies, while I insist on taking a logical approach that allows an organic growth of skill in the organisation. But most fail to see that logic because they lack the real world experience to approach any problem without a text book in their hands.

I hate people who study theory for a hundred years and then pretend to know it all. All they know is what someone force-fed into their empty skulls. The day they can apply a fraction of what they learnt parrot-fashion is the day they stand a chance of making a meaningful contribution to good governance. Until then they’ll just tediously regurgitate buzz words and bullshit until they have a room full of morons nodding their heads in unison with a vacant stare and a pathetic smile that reveals the vacuous nature of the space between their ears.

The worst part of this post is that there’s probably no one on Tumblr that even knows what the hell I’m ranting about. Yet another frustration with choosing a career in an obscure field. 🙁

  • Plight of the Rohingya Muslims

    taarrad7in:

Bangladesh bans foreign charities helping Rohingya

DHAKA: Bangladesh has ordered three international charities to stop providing aid to Rohingya refugees who cross the border to flee persecution and violence in Myanmar, an official said Thursday.

France’s Doctors without Borders (MSF) and Action Against Hunger (ACF) as well as Britain’s Muslim Aid UK have been told to suspend their services in the Cox’s Bazaar district bordering Myanmar, local administrator Joynul Bari said.

“The charities have been providing aid to tens of thousands of undocumented Rohingya refugees illegally. We asked them to stop all their projects in Cox’s Bazaar following directive from the NGO Affairs Bureau,” he told AFP.

To all those who were arguing that Bangladesh does indeed have its own problems, hence the ‘justification’ behind their PM’s remarks, I’d like to hear what the excuse for this despicable act is, since the aid agencies are providing the relief and support so it has no impact on the resources of Bangladesh.

  • Free Advice on Document Writing

Here’s my pet peeves when it comes to document writing:

    1. The document is worded the way the author thinks rather than how it is supposed to be read
    2. The content is answering a question that is irrelevant to the subject or focus of the issue at hand
    3. The audience is completely forgotten in the pitch of the document
    4. The formatting is inconsistent and tardy
    5. Slang or other informal terms are used

If you want to make sure that your document serves its intended purpose, and that it will be read, then keep the following in mind:

    1. Write it the way you want it to be read, not the way you’re thinking it out loud. It shows.
    2. After every statement or three, ask yourself if you’re still answering the right question or responding to the right need. If not, delete and rephrase. The last thing you want is a really good answer to the wrong question!
    3. If you’re writing a document intended for junior level staff, go into approproate detail that will be needed to guide them in what they need to do. If it’s for senior management, including irrelevant detail will lose their attention as well as give the impression that you’re petty or nitpicking.
    4. Take the time to align your margins, justify your text correctly, and apply suitable capitalisation to your headings and sub-headings. A shoddy looking document is that much more difficult to take seriously.
    5. Using cool terms that are the latest social buzz may sound cool to your friends and social networking buddies, but it leaves a bad after taste in a formal document because it undermines the professionalism of the reader, and assumes a level of familiarity that is most probably inappropriate.

Hope that helps. And I hope that some sorry sod is spared the pain of having to read a crappy document as a result of these simple points being applied.

  • The Odd One

One of the problems of assuming familiarity with people too easily, especially online, is that I tend to volunteer my opinion on very personal and sensitive issues without realising that I’m probably still a stranger to them, or at best, an acquaintance. My ability to sometimes grasp the essence of people’s current state, especially emotionally, often leads to me feeling more deeply concerned for their well being than would ever be considered normal. As a result, I tend to freak people out when I formulate an opinion about what they’re experiencing and how they should deal with it, despite them hardly having discussed the details with me.

I feel like a weirdo at times. Perhaps I am. But it seems to work for me, most of the time anyway. Perhaps I’ve just grown comfortable with being the odd one out, and as a result, I’ve had enough time and a really good vantage point to see the tediousness of being normal and fitting in. Conformance has rarely appealed to me, and given that conformance most often leads to complacency, I tend to loathe it, quite visibly at times as well. But it’s not just loathing it to be difficult, but because I see how lethargic people become about life when they grow complacent and try so hard to fit in and be accepted. They give up everything that makes them beautifully unique and only hold onto that which is overtly celebrated by others.

    Ramblings of a madman indeed.
