  • How long then
will you seek for beauty here?
    Seek the unseen,
    and beauty will appear.
When the last veil is lifted
    neither men
    Nor all their glory
    will be seen again,
The universe will fade — this mighty show
In all its majesty and pomp will go,
    And those who loved appearances
    will prove
    Each other’s enemies
    and forfeit love,
While those who loved the absent, unseen Friend
Will enter that pure love which knows no end.

  • Reminders of how much I don’t fit in with the local Muslim community slaps me in the face each time I see a veiled lady or a man clad in his kurta or shelwar-kameez (however that is supposed to be spelt).

I made a conscious decision not to wear my kurta/thaub/cloak anymore because it has become a symbol of religious elitism rather than the modesty that the sunnah supposed to invoke. I don’t want to be a symbol that represents outward piety but hollow intentions.

So I’ve chosen a lonely path. May Allah strengthen me and have mercy on me…

  • I no longer believed in the idea of soul mates, or love at first sight. But I was beginning to believe that a very few times in your life, if you were lucky, you might meet someone who was exactly right for you. Not because he was perfect, or because you were, but because your combined flaws were arranged in a way that allowed two separate beings to hinge together.

Lisa Kleypas, Blue-Eyed Devil (via make-me-smile)

My dream is to find someone that has perfectly counter-balanced strengths and weaknesses to my own. Someone whose flaws are perfectly imperfect. Whose smile reflects in her eyes when I walk in the room, and whose cheeks flush unexpectedly when you make eye contact unexpectedly. Someone that feels comfortable enough to show their silly side around me, and indulges my silliness in return. Someone who doesn’t just let me hug her, but embraces me in return. Someone who looks in my eyes and sees me, instead of seeing everything she needs from me. Someone who will find my romanticism endearing and won’t ridicule it as juvenile, fickle or too dreamy. Someone who is willing to live a life of wonder and enchantment with me even though life weighs down more heavily each day. And most importantly, someone that has the courage to be who they are and not who society wants them to be! But I suspect I’m asking for too much…

  • Hmmm…a slightly changed landscape of my Tumblr crushes from a few weeks ago:

    1. http://howfreeitis.tumblr.com/ – Still seems to top the list despite her bad ass attitude… <3

    2. http://realitycasualty.tumblr.com/ – Enjoying the engagement so far, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you’re oddly endearing 🙂

    3. http://vendemiaire.tumblr.com/ – I must admit, you’re a surprise entrant in this space. But there’s a sincerity about you that is refreshing.

    4. http://misanthropyaddict.tumblr.com/ – A fellow troubled soul…need I say more?

    5. http://leilockheart.tumblr.com/ – Have yet to connect, but I like what you post…obviously. 🙂

    6. http://sa-mantha.tumblr.com/ – We relate, don’t we? 🙂

    7. http://surferdude182.tumblr.com/ – I like the photography…and the witty not-so-nice responses to douche bags that post as anon! 🙂

    8. http://moonlightandtrees.tumblr.com/ – Definitely a pleasant newcomer to my crush corner. <3

    9. http://dontakeitforgranted.tumblr.com/ – Love some of the stuff, even though you tend to spam me at times…but why haven’t I been able to Unfollow just yet!? 🙂

  • I must learn to love the fool in me—the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of my human aliveness, humility, and dignity but for my Fool.
