  • Standing still is your enemy

    The table cloth descending on Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, with a stranded ship in the foreground. I photographed this ship shortly after it ran aground in a storm close to the shore, and went back there on my recent trip to see how it had fared in the stormy seas of the Cape. 

    It didn’t fare too well at all. It is a stark reminder of people that think that by standing still, nothing will change and they’ll be unaffected by life. No matter how firmly rooted we are in what we believe or how we see life, no matter how much we resist change, we will change. But in resisting it, that change will always be for the worst. 

    A principled approach to being adaptable is what saves our sanity in the face of life’s storms.

  • I normally don’t like photos that look like they were taken with filters or have been digitally enhanced. But the colours in this one just talks to me.

  • Sometimes, all you can do is brace yourself for the incoming storm.

    And sometimes, despite your best efforts, you’ll still run aground.

    Sometimes, the tide will come in and lift you up.

    And sometimes, you’ll be so tired that you’ll want to stay put.

    Regardless of your needs, your wants, your desires, or your pleas,

    the storm will not abate…until you’re done.

  • Storm clouds over Johannesburg

    Given the writer’s block that seems to be plaguing me these days, which is usually a result of the absence of my key source of inspiration from my life, I decided to post a few photos that I took over the last few years…I have a particular weakness for sunrises and sunsets, so I hope whoever stumbles across my blog (yeah rite!) doesn’t think it morbid but instead appreciates the warmth, beauty and serenity that such a scene offers.
