The world is a looking-glass, and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face. Frown at it, and it will turn sourly upon you; laugh at it and with it, and it is a jolly kind companion; and so let all young persons take their choice.

William Makepeace Thackeray (via thelittlephilosopher)

Simple logic that holds so much truth. What it doesn’t cover though, is our motivation to want to either smile or frown at it. When we understand that, i.e. our motivation to do either, rather than just succumb to it, that’s when we’ll truly be masters of our being rather than victims. Provided of course we have the courage to change what we identify as being the motivation for our frowns.
